Creative Ribbon Weaving Work with Kaffe Fassett’s ribbons from The Sampler!

Created and made by Karol Paulus from The Sampler

From Karol: "This pillow was my challenge to create a feature item for the Kaffe Fassett line of ribbons for my shows this year! I decided to weave a fabric for the front of a pillow from ribbon. I loved the Black Plink ribbon with the Flame Stitch pattern. I made a foundation by putting fusible web on a piece of black fabric. I removed the paper part and started to lay the ribbons on row by row on top of it. Then I took the narrow accent ribbon and wove it in where i thought it look nice. In order to stabilize it, I used the tip of my iron and carefully pressed in many places to hold together after taking the pins out. I then turned it over and pressed well from the back side. I knew it would be necessary to stitch carefully on the machine to make it more durable. I used Bottom Line thread because it is very thin and wouldn't show so much. I squared it up, added the drapery braid and attached the backing, then stuffed. It was hard to sew tight enough against the braid so I attached the braid and the backing all by hand..."
